Creating Quality Assessments

I have created a rubric for a Project Based Assessment. I have completed the rubric but feel it will need adjustment as I use it.

The expectations are focused and clear. There is alignment with the standards, but more work needs to be done.

I feel the expectations are fair, and will be clearly communicated.

There will be multiple ways to assess the areas in the rubric, with many formative assessments during the process of the completion of the assignment.

The project will be authentic as it will have the capability of being used as the student's online portfolio. It will also have the capacity to be used by other schools and/or students to learn about other art areas.

There will also be area for the viewers of the project to leave comments and suggestions.

The rubric can be viewed at;

Day 2 Reflection

Day 2 Reflection Secondary 1 Bob Glover

The potential application of what the various web sites have to offer is exciting. Edmodo, Prezi, Edutopia, etc. The real time affects that the students can use in collaboration with the teachers or other students is powerful for allowing the student to self and peer assess while in the creative process.

The ability for students to communicate and share ideas with teachers or other students allows students to differentiate their learning to their particular needs while continuing to fulfil the requirements of the curriculum.

Redundancy of assessment strategies will ensure reliability and validity of the assessments.

“Prezi” although fun and motivational, is a bit difficult and time consuming. Students would need to explore this program.

Formative Assessments

Day 3 Reflection

Formative Assessment - Gives student’s feedback and the TEACHER feedback regarding the student’s learning and the teachers instruction. Also allow students to assess themselves wether in school or at home. some sites even have apps that can be used on the students smart phones! (quizlet)

Poll Everywhere - Instant clarification of understanding of the class.

Google Doc - Sharing and revising

Quizlet - Great flashcard use!!

Corkboard - Using online post-it-notes to gather information and check for understanding.

Again, the tools available for students to take control and responsibility for their own learning is very exciting. I think getting them to take more control of their learning is key Many of the tools are being used by teachers and students already in the building. Creating a sample product in each area was helpful. Working through the process with experienced people near by made it a productive day.

I love these reflections you added - nice summaries of what you learned each day. I think this will be great to refer to in the future.

Poll Everywhere

I would use this survey to discover the level of confidence with the students for two point perspective.

Quizlet

Principles of Design vocabulary and definitions

Corkboard

Students will be able to use Corkboard for critiques of famous works of art, or student generated works.

Discovery Ed.

To check the results go to "My Classroom" and "Assign by URL".

A brief quiz on the Basic Shapes and Shading

Google Forms

This is a form that can be used to collet data on how well students understand art concepts presented during the course. However, because each class could enter with different needs/strengths - perhaps instead of an exit survey you made this into a pre-course survey. Or perhaps give it pre and post and compare? Just something to consider. Feel free to keep/edit/delete this text.
